US business leader calls on Thailand to facilitate investments

American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand president David Carden on Thursday met with Thai Deputy Minister Korbsak Sabhavasu at Government House asking that Thailand to facilitate investment in the kingdom.

Mr. Kobsak told reporters after the meeting that American investors were not concerned regarding Thailand’s political situation, as business still made progress, but Thailand's Department of Customs regulations and Act were the main obstacle to US investment.

The deputy minister stated he would look onto the matter and added that the Thai Customs Department was now amending the Customs Act to open ways for foreign investment.

Mr. Carden also said many US firms bringing investments to Thailand had to face difficulties in the interpretation of Thai customs and wanted see customs regulations adjusted to the international level.

He admitted that the customs problem was unresolved for some years, as the matter was neglected under previous governments due to Thailand’s prior political changes. (TNA)
